Maritime Entry and Navigation in Croatia

Border Crossing Points:

  • Permanent border crossing points for international passenger and cargo transport in maritime traffic: Rijeka, Ploče.

Navigation in the Republic of Croatia:

  • Sports and pleasure vessels arriving from Schengen countries don’t need to report to the maritime border office when entering Croatian territorial waters. This also applies to third-country vessels that have undergone border checks in another Schengen country.
  • Third-country vessels must enter through designated border crossing points for international passenger transport in maritime traffic.
  • The vessel’s master entering Croatia by sea must pay navigation safety and sea pollution protection fees, the sojourn tax, and register foreign nationals on board (if they stay on board) in accordance with regulations. Re-registration can be done and paid via enautika.pomorstvo.hr, at a Harbourmaster’s Office, or its branch office.
  • Vessels transported into Croatia by land or placed in a port or approved location in Croatia must, before starting their journey, pay navigation safety and sea pollution protection fees, as well as the sojourn tax.   • The fee amount depends on the vessel’s length and engine power, and is paid annually regardless of the navigation period in Croatia’s internal waters and territorial sea.

Sojourn Tax:

  • Sojourn tax is applicable to boat owners, users, and individuals spending the night on vessels longer than seven meters, used for rest, recreation, or cruising.
  • Sojourn tax payment for navigation is available through the online portal nautika.evisitor.hr, offering lump-sum or per-night/person payment options.
  • The portal is available in 10 languages and supports payments through major card brands and bank transactions.
  • After payment, boaters receive a confirmation via email, which must be retained during their stay aboard the vessel.
